Just replaced brushes on a fat motor. First thing I did was kill power and turn the motor feeling for resistance, broken magnet. You may find rust where the brush wiring bolts in. Healthy brushes shud be appx 5/8” long or longer…they last a looong time. This is easier than you think. The tricky part is positioning the special washer when re-installing the cap and brushes…a long skinny screwdriver is helpful in spreading the brushes down over armature. Harold has brushes. Jack
Mower motor starts but only goes a rev or two and dies. Armature rotates normally (like the others). I swapped out the thermal cut out switch and got same symptoms. Does this sound like bad brushes? What's the trick in getting the brush assy end off the motor. All hex nuts are removed. I've opened it about 3/8 in. but doesn't want to move beyond that. I'm reluctant to apply too much screw driver tip leverage. Is this normal? Thanks for any suggestions. Bob Mc Then I have them on right, thought so. Someday I'll figure out how this
new deck got the harness wired up backwards....
Never a dull moment.
