My Dad told me of horror stories that occurred when some of the shaping and processing equipment at American Bridge would suddenly unload a series motor. Like large rotating pieces of it taking off and leveling several walls before stopping......THEN the motor came apart.
I have had the tiller motor unload with the belt breaking. It did not come apart, explode, or whatnot. It just spun normally. If memory serves it is a series wound motor.
If there's enough interest I'll pull the gear and try running a lift motor at 36 volts unloaded. But with the gear on it just runs normally.
