Re: (ET) ER8-36 deck motors
The ER8 deck motors are the same armature and stator as the short, fat
motors on the other decks. I know someone already stated this, but I
just wanted to second that statement.
I have found though that the mid-mount deck motors seem to have
different height blade clutches on them. There ARE two different
heights and it is important that all motors on one deck have the same
clutches. Also, no matter what blades you use, always use these
clutches, because they are meant to slip so that the armature doesn't
burn up if you hit something hard.
These deck motors have thermal circuit breakers on them. You should be
able to test these motors on a deck with those big blades. If the
breakers trip off while mowing, then there's probably too much load on
them. I understand that you may have to get all new breakers to make
sure that you test them correctly, but Harold or Jim should have some
NOS breakers, OR you can buy aftermarket replacements made by Cooper
Bussman that almost bolt directly in place of the originals (on
top-mount breakers). You should also be able to COMPARE total deck load
based on the Power Use gauge on the tractor (kinda, but not really
accurate). You can at least get an idea of whether or not the motors
are working harder or about the same with those bigger blades.
Definitely use some of the front-mount deck motors with reinforcement
rings underneath. I'd like to see how well this works out!

Subject: Re: (ET) ER8-36 deck motors
It is probably not the best idea..... I would not need to lower the
motors, i would actually have to raise them a little bit. On the older
deere decks the blade sits pretty close. Here is a good shot of the
underside of the 50''. http://www.benchtest.com/images/under_deck.jpg ;;
I guess my biggest concern is would the 42'' deck motors be able to
handle the 17-3/16" blade? Seeing as the ER8-36 blade is 18 inches and
the same HP has the others.
