Re: (ET) A new coat of paint....

Actually its not as simple at that! Galvanizing goes thru many stages between emerging from the tank and about 2 years.  Items painted within hours of galvanizing or after about 2 years generally have no problem holding paint. But between 1 day and 2 years there are a number of issues that affect whether paint will stay on.
My advice would be:
1) Tell the galvanizer that you will be painting the product. Some companies do a post treatment that is incompatible with paint.
2) Find a primer that specifically says it is for new galvanizing. There are some out there.
3) Paint as soon as possible or wait a season.

You can't paint galvanized steel if the zinc has had enough time to oxidize, as the paint won't stick. But if you do it quick enough it works. I don't know if the time is seconds, hours or days. My local galvanizing place offers to paint it when they finish galvanizing. They are V&S Galvanizing, with several locations nationwide.
For others, try the Yellow Pages or Mr Google. He knows a lot of stuff.
