Re: (ET) Bill Gunn's Elec-Trak parts

I had a "Bill Gunn" Deck until recently (sold with tractor).  It needs nothing do make it last.
Any improvements would add cost and would not extend its useable life, in my opinion. Its a great deck.

Powder coating of a mild steel deck would probably be the most practical way to make the deck last longer.

But in any case, flipping up the front mount mower and washing it off with a hose after each mowing is always a good idea.  Leave it flipped up and let the sun dry it out, or run the deck motors for a short time to help dry things out.

If your deck motors might still have the original shielded lower ball bearings, keeping them dry is very important.  That's not quite as much of a concern if the lower bearing has been replaced with a double sealed version of a 6205 bearing.

Depending on the stainless used the dies might not like it.The former Allegheny Ludlum used to do custom stainless body stampings for FoMoCo.{Have you every seen a sixties vintage stainless T-Bird ?} The biggest problem they encountered was each die set would do enough panels for half a dozen cars. Then it was game over. :(

When making the decks, you might consider punching a few out of stainless. It's not all that much more expensive. Or at least hot dip galvanizing them.
