Thanks. How do I tell if the orientation is screwed up on an E12M deck motor, and how do I unscrew it?thanks again, Steve On Sun, 6 Aug 2006, RJ Kanary wrote:Permanent magnet motor? {I'm getting in a rut, aren't I ? } The field poles have to have a particular alignment in relation to the brush location on the commutator.Torque can be biased to be increased in one direction of rotation, lessened in the other. Ever notice how a cordless drill has more torque going 'forward' than in reverse? That's why. If the orientation is screwed up, you can end up with an armature that uses gobs of amps......and turns most of them into heat. The same thing can be done to a wound field motor.----- Original Message ----- From: "Steve Gaarder" <gaarder ecovillage ithaca ny us>To: "RJ Kanary" <rjkanary nauticom net> Cc: "et" <Elec-trak cosmos phy tufts edu> Sent: Sunday, August 06, 2006 12:48 PM Subject: Re: (ET) hot motorCan you explain this a little more clearly? I have a similar problem - a motor (on an E12M) that runs, but gets hot. A local motor shop checked it and said that things seemed fine.thanks, Steve Gaarder On Sun, 6 Aug 2006, RJ Kanary wrote:Permanent magnet motor ? If so, did you mark the brush end bellorientation before disassembly? If not, that could be the culprit. The GEand made for GE motors have tabs and slots to prevent this. Just a thought................. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Neil Dennis" <wombatt gmail com> To: "et" <Elec-trak cosmos phy tufts edu> Sent: Sunday, August 06, 2006 11:13 AM Subject: (ET) hot motorLets see if this one bounces !!I just pulled one of the mower motors from the JD, it was running "weak"andgot hot enough to burn off one of the motor terminal wires at the chassis connector [;-[ It seems to spin over ok by hand, I put in anew lower bearing this spring (the old one was getting noisy) and hope I got it together right - it has been running weak since then but sees toby slowly dying. Any thoughts as to what I could look for or what i may have screwed up, it had been ok before the teardown. wombat _______________________________________________ Elec-trak mailing list Elec-trak cosmos phy tufts edu https://cosmos.phy.tufts.edu/mailman/listinfo/elec-trak_______________________________________________ Elec-trak mailing list Elec-trak cosmos phy tufts edu https://cosmos.phy.tufts.edu/mailman/listinfo/elec-trak
