I tried this some time ago. If you use a small one like 500-1200W it will last for a little. I have a 10k with a 12500 surge. not enuff to keep the rpm up to get the right frequency (60hz). There is also no govener to speed it up when the load comes on to keep the freq. My 2cents worth.
