Chris,

this sounds like a good idea to me. One would have to get the 
pulley size right for the load one wants to put on the 
generator such that it actually produces (close to) the 
desired frequency FAIK. I think our compound wound drive
motors are relatively good wrt maintaining their speed
under (light) load. 

Just as a joke: you could, in a pinch, run the tractor
off of a standard wall socket :) Using your generator as a
single speed motor :)
