Re: (ET) Electric Chipper/Shredder?

Jack Casey, a list member, has been looking for an E-20 traction motor to purchase. I haven't been out scavenging yet this year, so I haven't come up with one yet. Contact him off list, and see if you can make a deal. Then modify you plans a little, and use an E- 15 motor . <G> BTW, you might do well to fabricate a 'starter' of sorts for whatever motor you use. Dumping the low impedance load such as that armature across the battery pack will result in some dramatic activity.

Subject: (ET) Electric Chipper/Shredder?

I recently picked up a ROTO HOE Mdl 500 chipper/shredder. Originally came with a 5hp to 12hp IC engine. Thins one was engine less as it used the power takeoff pulley from the guys tractor. Anyway, I have a NOS E-20 drive motor sitting on my shelf and wanted to hear what everyone thought about converting it to electric. Is it as simple as some mounting bolts and the appropriately sized pulley? Then I could just plug it into the mower deck/snowblower plug and go to town!
