Re: (ET) AllTrax -- Thinking Out Loud

I wouldn't switch the system voltage. If you go to 24 volts, every thing will just seem wimpy as it would not have as much power/speed as it does now. If you go to 48 volts, the drive motor should do fine and get higher top speeds. But the mower deck uses permanent magnet motors which won't like the higher voltage and probably have a short life span. So you would need to add a second controller for the mower deck. The snow thrower and tiller use series motors (like the drive motor) so would probably be ok with the higher voltage, but running at a higher speed might give weird results (high speed tiller??) so would also need controllers.

There are plenty of smart 36 volt chargers out there if you you are in need of a replacement. If money isn't an issue you could get a nice three-bank charger and charge in 3 groups of 2 batteries which would keep everything super well balanced. Or just get a cheap used golf cart charger.
