Re: (ET) Sealing in the paint



You might try a water-based polyurethane "varnish."  Minwax makes a good
line that includes three gloss levels.  It's good stuff, goes over about
anything, and doesn't amber out the finish like the oil-based 
polyurethanes.
It takes more coats to build, but dries quicker.  I don't believe that it's
technically certified for outdoor use (no UV protection?), but I've used it
on outdoor projects and it seems to hold up well.
