Re: (ET) Drive chain - how tight?

How tight did you have it? It's not a belt, so the tightness isn't needed to prevent slip, but it shouldn't be loose enough to rattle around. My personal thought is at rest it should not be putting tension/pressure on the bearings.

Is it possible the pillow bearing just wore out? The chain will produce thrust against the bearings during normal operation, when was it last replaced?

Nope and nope.

Yikes! Wha hoppen???

Yes, I've been greasing it every season. Just did so in March.

FIRST question: Have I been running the chain too tight?

BETTER question: How tight should the chain be?

The ER8-36 service manual explains how to adjust the chain tension, but his
silent on HOW MUCH tension.

Any thoughts?
