Re: (ET) Strange Alltrax behavior

Thanks; I will try that next week when I'm back from being out of town.
I think there was at least one time when the contactor did not drop out, but the motor still didn't go. I'll try some more tests.

Also, I'm thinking of connecting a computer to the serial port and see if any messages appear. Do you know if it sends diagnostic stuff to that port?

thanks again,

Steve

It could be the contactor drive circuits in the controller are dead, which you don't want to hear.

But first... by memory at least the contactor coil gets the "+" side via the microswitch on the throttle (or brake pedal? or some switch?). The "-" side of the coil is what the controller drives. So rather than just measure the voltage at the coil terminals, measure the voltage between the coil terminal driven by the controller and battery "+" (or battery "-" if I'm saying all this backwards).

This is on the off chance that the controller is just fine and the wiring to the other side of the coil is flakey.

Good luck.

Found my spare contactor, and swapped it in. No change :-(

Have you tried replacing the contactor?  I've seen older one act up like this.

Subject:(ET) Strange Alltrax behavior

I have an E-15 with an Alltrax controller. The speed control pot is on a throttle lever and the foot switch is controlled by a s eparate switch. The first time I start it up it's ok. I turn on the key switch, the contactor closes and then opens a few secon ds later. I turn on the "foot" switch, the contactor closes, and off we go. It's all fine till I turn off the foot switch. Aft er that, it will not run. Turning on the key switch makes the contactor close, again for a few seconds, but it never closes agai n, until I let it sit turned off for 15 minutes or more.Any ideas?Steve Gaarder_______________________________________________Ele c-trak mailing listElec-trak cosmos phy.tufts.eduhttps://cosmos.phy.tufts.edu/mailman/listinfo/elec-trak
