Re: (ET) website

And of course the problem that a number of people are not on Facebook and don't feel comfortable outsourcing knowledge to that company.

So to start with, are all of the documents lost at this point? I have a small chunk of class C space and a few servers I can host things on here. If someone has a copy I'd be happy to host it for a few decades, or until I have to replace my NiCds. :-)

I was very active on both sites back then.  George called it a splitting of the church.  Facebook may be more active currently, but the restoration tips and techniques were documented so much better on the web sites.

Perhaps a little history review is in order, at least as I know it. There are TWO forums out there and only one has been intentionally shut down:Back in 2001 or 2002 Dan Barry started the first web-based Elec-Trak forum atelec-trak.org <http://elec-trak.org> and also under theelec-trak.com <http://elec-trak.com> name. He has kept it going all these years (a thankless task only noticed when it stops working!) and as of December 2018 was doing a software rebuild to slow down the hackers. I'm don't know if the current error message means it got hacked again onwhat. In <http://what.In> 2013 (at the peak of George B's excitement), some folks splintered off and started a second Elec-Trak forum atge-electrak.com <http://ge-electrak.com>. As RJ noted, David Plamondon posted in November 2018 of his intent to shut that site down the first of January this year given the lack of users. There is a good chance that once he allowed the domain name to expire it was immediately snarfed up by a "squatter".I'll try and get hold of Don Barry later this week and find out what is up with his site which has the more extensive archives. I'm not sure how much "our numbers are down" and how much we are just much more spread out now... it went from just this e-mail list (started in 1998 or maybe earlier) to one then multiple dedicated web forums, then Facebook, plus general garden tractor forums with sub-sections on electrics and more. Too many places in the virtual world to keep track of!On 02/04/2019 9:50 am, Timothy Chapin wrote:> web site has been taken down.> > On Mon, Feb 4, 2019 at 11:35 AM Mike Finck via Elec-trak>wrote:> >> I guess I missed something a while back.
