Re: (ET) Mower deck crisis!

Okay, now for the "rest of the story"...
I studied several options for replacing/updating my mower deck and did not find one I was really satisfied with.    My requirements for the deck were:
readily available, ie. currently in production parts
easily adapted motors to the deck
reasonable cost,
longer run time or larger deck for the same run time,
and commercially available blades.

As there was not really anything out there that fit all my needs, I found myself looking at the offerings of battery powered push mowers.   At the time there was the Black and Decker one and the Neuton/ DR Power one.  I thought the Black and Decker  one looked light duty to me, and it had a fan on the lower side that looked fragile.
So I ordered one from Neuton.
The Neuton motor specs:

Neuton CE6.4 motor:
    Size: 750watt, 36V, 50AMP
and for those who like more numbers:
    RPM: 3800
    tip speed 18,000 FT/min
    AMP idle: 5-6
    AMP cutting: 10-12
    Max torque(Stall)   2.28 ft/lbs
    Noise: under 80 decibels
    19inch blade, actual 18.7"
http://www.neutonpower.com/

The deck is a MTD 54 inch deck complete off E-bay.
a set of motor mounts/adapters to the deck and  a few bad attempts at pushing it in front and now I have a pull type, 54 inch, 3hp, mower that runs for the two hours I need it to without getting close to the low side of the battery pack.

now if I offset my hitch and set another 42 inches underneath....  I would love to mow an eight foot path each time around!

OK, you've spilled the beans, now tell us where you got these new deck motors!

Subject: Re: (ET) Mower deck crisis!

I decided to go the "converted" route with a few changes.  My mower deck
of choice is a brand new 54 incher...because bigger is always
better....!  I discovered a source for new 1hp mower deck motors,
mounted them to the new deck, built a nice frame to contain it all and
then  headed out across the lawn....:-)

That is when the wheels fell off the fantasy. :'( Seems a 54 inch mower
with a full width striping roller will not turn in front of our
tractors. Going straight was great, turning not so much.  So I would
recommend  a fully suspended mower deck on casters.

My other problem is the motor height.  I would love to shove my deck
under the middle of my tractor.  I have a new idea  mid mount one.  But
it is exceptionally tall.  I would love to have one of the cub cadet
Zeon mower decks to play with....!

My current configuration has me towing my mower and this works
surprisingly well.  I have lots of run time and the modern 1hp motors
don't seem to use hardly any more juice than the old mower motors.

Maybe at the swap meet in Vermont there might be some new inspirations!

However now the shell of the deck is just splitting apart around the front caster mount, and all around the side exit; even with the side cover plate in place, it's generally weak and has been flexing a lot. It looks beyond welding this time, unless I really have no alternative, so I'm looking for a new deck or shell.
