Re: (ET) mower blade sharpening
My 2 cents - I used a bench grinder for years and finally just clamped
them into a workbench vise and hit them with a 4" metal hand held grinder.
Works great and you can shape the edge real nice. Follow original angle
and do both sides. Clean debris with a wire wheel first.
If you want to check balance, pound a nail into a wall and hang it on
it. The heavy side goes down and you can trim that side so it hangs
horizontal.
Make sure the blade is "flat" and not bent.
And, for the guy that was having problems with grass "balls", make sure
it is on the right way and not upside down!!

Subject: (ET) mower blade sharpening
My problem with using a bench grinder is that mine (6") is too small.
There's no good blade rest to set the sharpening angle from and blades
tend to hit the grinder housing. The solution is to buy a better (bigger
wheeled) grinder--just hasn't been a priority, yet. ;-)
Could probably build a jig for the 4" grinder, but again--plenty of
projects!
Thanks.
