I disagree with "probably should have been."  IMO, maintainters do more 
harm 
than good.  They are useful when you need to have the full capacity of the 
battery available at a moment's notice after a lengthy idle period (such 
as 
with a UPS system).

If that's not the case, just keep the battery as clean, dry, and cool as 
possible.  Check the SG monthly and charge if the SG falls to 1.23 - 1.25.
