Probably 35-40 years ago, an old-timer recommended this to me for manual
transmissions and even crankcases in ICE cars.

But then about 25 years ago I read an admonition to NEVER operate any
lubricated machine without proper lubrication, not even for a few seconds.

I don't recall where I read this, but IIRC the gist of it was that
"flushing" with a non-lubricating solvent may have been OK for old, loose-
tolerance gears and bearings, but was not such a good idea for modern ones.

So, if I were going to "flush" my ET's transaxle, I might do so with a
cheap
and/or light grade of gear oil rather than kero, discarding the "flush
fill"
after a short period of light-load operation, and replacing it with the
good
stuff.
