MODERN and PRECISION are not the hallmarks found in a Peerless® trans axle. :) The only thing approaching modern was the use of Torrington® roller bearings.Everything else about these units, right down to the machining quality and the choice of other materials used screams CHEAP! Flushing these units out with the solvent of your choice is not going to cause injury to it. If it fails after flushing, it's because the destruction started long before you drained it. {Drive trains. But then about 25 years ago I read an admonition to NEVER operate any lubricated machine without proper lubrication, not even for a few seconds. I don't recall where I read this, but IIRC the gist of it was that "flushing" with a non-lubricating solvent may have been OK for old, loose- tolerance gears and bearings, but was not such a good idea for modern ones. So, if I were going to "flush" my ET's transaxle, I might do so with a cheap and/or light grade of gear oil rather than kero, discarding the "flush fill" after a short period of light-load operation, and replacing it with the good stuff.
