If I was in Chris Z's situation it would push me dangerously close to the
edge. I just can't take that sort of unexpected, mind-twisting,
work-stopping scenario. And from what I've read here, this sort of thing
happens rather frequently. These tractors are all old, worn and have been
used (or neglected, or downright abused) by multiple owners.

I'm going to be proactive on this. Every chance I get I will remove a
section of wiring, thoroughly inspect it, replace whatever is remotely
questionable, enclose it in split loom, properly secure it along its entire
length and clean/grease all the connections at its ends.

If the whole tractor was to be done this way it would be a major project -
which means it would never get done. But I'm thinking it lends itself well
to a piecemeal approach, so that's the way I'm headed.

Don't get me wrong, I love my tractor. I've only had a few minor
head-scratchers. And I know a long term re-wiring project won't prevent
all
failures. It sure seems though, that it will prevent a big chunk of them.
