Maybe someone else can, but I can't imagine anything that the controller 
would do that might cause this.  Granted, my tractor is an E15, but even 
when I've accidentally tried to run it with no field current, the meter 
though 
pegged was not damaged.  I'm pretty sure at least one person on this list 
is 
using an Alltrax with an I5, which I think is similar, so it should work.  
(Right?)

I'm wondering if your tractor might have a wiring problem.  Have you 
confirmed correct connections to the field?  When you've tested the motor 
with just batteries, did you do so with the battery connected right to the 
motor, or through the tractor's wiring harness?
