Re: (ET) No more Bill Gunn? - Alltrax install & broken maindisconnect - question

Hi John and everyone,

The main disconnect is not needed for operation when using the Alltrax controller because it controls one of the salvaged contactors automatically.  The contactor (or solenoid) is turned on when the Throttle Switch is closed and turns off about a second after the Throttle Switch is opened during throttle operation.

The reason the controller has control of the contactor is because it allows the vehicle to sit idle with the key off and still be able to detect if the vehicle tries to roll away ( Roll Detect ).  The controller, if wired per our instructions, always has power applied and draws less current than the self discharge rate of the batteries.  The contactor replaces the main disconnect ( but I kept the fuse link ).  The Charge/Run switch allows you to disable the controller completely and also isolates the ET electric's from the battery charger when charging.  Remember the controller has 63V rated parts in it, if the charger regulating capacitor goes south you could apply more than 60 volts into the controller and blow its caps !

Thanks for bringing this up guys !

Hi Steve & others who have done or plan to convert to Alltrax,

Steve kinda implies the main disconnect is no longer needed.
Is that intentional? (relay are more obviously not needed - but main disconnect was more a safety feature than speed or direction control).

Mark,

You have to remove all that stuff anyway to install the Alltrax, since it's not needed any more.  GO ahead and install the Alltrax controller.

Subject: (ET) No more Bill Gunn?

Hey all,

I just got an E-20 and another E-20 on the way,? the first one isn?t running so I opened it up and found all the relays physically broken, the Main Power Disconnect is also broken,? so I don?t know what else is broken yet,?

So I called Bill Gunn,? and he told me he is no longer selling Elec-Trak stuff.  Some guy in Costa Rica(?) is purchasing (maybe) the operation but not all the items and then isn?t going to be supplying parts.

EEEEK.

Does anyone have 5 relays and a Main Power Disconnect?  Or should I just go ahead and pull all that stuff and try to install my Alltrax?

Thanks

Mark
