Re: (ET) Re: ET new technology and abandening the ICE (Rod Hower)

is. It's been my limited experience that black boxes go south fairly
quickly
or not at all.

I just wanted to chime in my 2 cents. Yes, it's great we have choices
to chase the old technology or upgrade to electronic control.

i drive an on-road Chevy S-10 electric truck and my "black box" went south
last year. i think it was a rebuilt model with about 3 years on it.
To get going again, i bought another rebuilt unit for $600 since it was out of warranty.
The only other charge was the $75 towing to get my EV home from where
the controller failed. I wish i could have opened up the "black box"
and probably figured out what failed myself, but doing so would have
made it useless for a core replacement to get a rebuilt (then i was
looking at
$1200 for a new unit). So black boxes do fail; they do have a certain MTBF, etc.
like most pieces of technology.

i'm enjoying this discussion and am currently debating whether i should
buy an electronic control or "dig in" for my E-20 which has numerous drive issues.

Thanks for all your valuable ideas, information and opinions!

Best regards,
ted
