I actually did try this. When the original lift gave out, I got a used window motor from the local junk yard. It took a little work. Originally one of the brush straps was soldered to the housing -- to get back to ground via wherever the motor bolted onto the car body. I cut that connection free (to prevent an electrical connection to the ET frame) and ran a wire out to where I could connect to it. (I have a picture if anyone is interested.)
It worked for me for about a year. The post mortem showed some serious corrosion among other things... I should have sealed up the wire penetration better. Also, I have no idea how old and tired the thing was when I got it. But while it was working, it was about the same as the original motor, kinda tired and creaky sounding, but got the job done.
