3. It does stress the lift motor, but it should lift it. I don't know about
a thermal breaker - it may be a bad/poor connection somewhere.
         If it has a Delco® lift motor, it does have a thermal limiter
incorporated into the brush holder assembly. Fatigue of the bi metal 
element
can cause premature tripping.
      Unfortunately, so can short brushes, and generally overall poor
condition of all the bushings and such that make up the lift system. A few
moments with an inline ammeter could provide some clues. Last I heard, the
Delco® motors were constructed of Unobtanium.
     I'm investigating the possibility of adapting regular GM window lift
motors to do the task.
