I don't know anything about Trojan, but there are many good 36 volt modern 
chargers intended for use with golf cars, from the boatanchor Lesters to 
newer 
lightweight switchmode chargers.  Anything which implements a IUI or dv/dt 
profile will be an improvement over the GE timer blunderbuss.  

Mr. Landis's controller probably has some application as a maintainer in 
situations where the tractor sits unusued for months at a time, but in my 
judgement its algorithm isn't appropriate for routine charging.  (He and I 
have more or less agreed to disagree on this matter.  ;-)
