Re: (ET) Large Frame Mower Deck

I can attest to this one! When I first got my deck and tried it out, I
couldn't understand why it was cutting so bad. It was mangling the grass
and leaving strips. Mowing in reverse or going over the same spots more
than once seemed to help, but the cut was still terrible and I wasn't
about to spend all that extra effort to mow. The blades didn't look that
bad, but I ordered new ones from Bill Gunn and thought for sure that would
fix the problem. Well, the problem was the same. I called Bill and asked
him what the problem could be. He said he didn't understand why that would
be happening unless the blades were spinning in the wrong direction. I
checked that and sure enough, they were all spinning backwards! I reversed
2 of the wires on top of the PTO outlet and that got them spinning in the
right direction, but then I lost dynamic breaking on the blades. Can't
remember how I fixed that, but the point is that now I get practically
perfect cuts (except when turning) - as good as any other mower I have
ever used. Oh, I also had to change one of the blade mounts. At some
point, someone had used installed one from a different deck and it was
actually thicker/longer than the other two, causing that blade to sit
lower than the others and thus an uneven cut in the one blade path. So,
check those mounts as well to make sure they are all the same.

Regards,
Don C.
