Any suggestions on what tool to use to remove the lower bearing from
the case endpiece?
What about a tool for pulling the upper bearing off the shaft? (The
clearance between the bearing and the commutator is so small.)

i've seen some of those bearings be sooo tight that a small hydrallic
press
with appropriate bearing pullers was the only way i could get them off. i
used a jc whitney $100 press but with luck you may be able to do it with
just
a bearing/pulley puller. good luck, jon k albany ny
