Re: (ET) Other Batteries?

> Anyone tried 12V batteries?

In the road-going EV world, flooded marine batteries have a rep for very
short lives -- 9 months if you're lucky. Golf car batteries usually last
2-3 years.

The reason is that marine batteries are designed to run a few lights or a
trolling motor. They are expected to loaf along at 25 amps or so.
Higher current draws will kill them early.

So you will pay one-half as much, but probably get one-third the service
life from them.

When it comes to maximum miles for the dollar, golf car batteries are
unbeatable, period.

Several people on this list have gotten good results buying used golf car
batteries from golf car dealers or golf courses. These probably
represent a better value than new 12 volt marine batteries.
