I don't know of an AC clipper that *isn't* a "universal" motor. Most small
hand held power tools use a brush motor with the field in series with the
armature. This type would run with AC or DC as long as there is no
variable speed or other electronic controller. Runniing at 36V would not
produce the power or speed that 120 VAC would.
