[IPTA-cs] Next meeting and metastable cosmic strings

Hi All,

Just two quick comments on (1) our next meeting and (2) metastable cosmic strings.

(1) Next meeting:

We will meet again next week on Thursday, 24 February at 3 pm UTC and talk about the following things:

a) New team members

b) Update on the implementation into Enterprise (hopefully)

c) Update from the metastable cosmic strings subgroup (Alexander, Jeremy, Kai, Vedran)

d) Any other business: Other directions in theory space you think we should explore? More ideas on what we should include in the analysis? Etc. etc.

(2) Metastable cosmic strings:

Check out the following two preprints, which just appeared yesterday and today:

https://arxiv.org/abs/2202.06216

https://arxiv.org/abs/2202.07386

Both papers discuss gravitational waves from metastable cosmic strings and basically reproduce the plot in my paper from 2020. That is, compare Fig. 5 in 2202.06216 as well as Fig. 6 in 2202.07386 with Fig. 1 in https://arxiv.org/abs/2009.10649. All three plots show that metastable cosmic strings allows us to reach smaller values of \gamma (values around \gamma ~ 4), which promises to give us a better fit to the IPTA DR2 data than just standard stable cosmic strings.

Best regards, Kai.
