Re: (ET) Puck Style Brake Pads

FINAL THOUGHTs on this rear hocky puck brake pads brake job. Yes, they do work, and the brake is very solid early, works GREAT in limited garage testing. I had to add two more washers to the pull mechanism (it came with 3) and more importantly I found out that to make them work great you need to add a US Quarter/25 cent piece behind each puck to give it more reach. Once I added the quarters the the pedal became firm within 1/2" of pedal travel, I'm guessing. Overall, very pleased with what I see now, especially with what I experienced with the old pads and pedal travel.

The caliper housings came really clean with a bath of 50/50 warm water and white vinegar. Everything lubed and the rotor polished with a 50 grit sand paper.

Onward to wrapping up the wiring.

I can confirm these "Kid Kart" go-kart brake pads are the real deal, even down the small gold flakes in the braking pad material. Drop-in replacements!

The inboard pad may be fine if the caliper wasn't floating, like mine, leaving the inboard almost brand new looking.

There are quite a few distributers of these little gems in the UK but I was able to find these US based companies that had them.

This rear brake story gets even better. Open eBay and run a search for 'MANCO 3759" and someone please tell me why that brake caliper/pads isn't a direct bolt-in replacement for our older caliper? For $30 I bought one, will let everyone know when it arrives but I'm 99% sure that is a replacement caliper with easily purchased cheap brake pads. My old caliper and now new brake pads are almost fully cleaned/restored and ready for re-assembly so I'm not sure if I'll be able to try this new caliper out, but for anyone else out there wanting mechanical brakes again, cheap, THIS might be a cool option! My original caliper has casting marks where that pin is located on the Manco 3759 unit, shown attached here. That pin could easily be removed if it hinders placement in the tractor.

I posted the following, with photos, up on Facebook and thought some of you here might be interested as well. Not sure if I'm only person that is still interested in these older brake pads.

My E12 has the older "puck" style of brake pads and I was not liking what I found when I removed them, they are cracked and broken. I thought, no problem, just order another set and we'll be fine. Yeah, I learned that the puck brake pads are not available and it sounds like they haven't been for a while. I am not in the position to buy the $200 upgrade kit, which I understand is better, it just isn't feasible right now.

One evening a few weeks back I set out to find a suitable replacement, and it turns out I believe I have found the impossible. The package finally arrived today, and in the pictures you will see two pucks, with the one sporting a black metal backing plate is the new one. Same size if you remove that thin metal plate from the old puck, and it fits into the caliper great. They are not cheap but dang it, they look like the same material with that gold flake in it even.

Anybody interested in the details?
