Re: (ET) Elec-Trak Chipper shredder conversion: MacKissic Hammermill type shipper Shredder with GE Snow-Thrower motor- update

Hi Group,

Quick update in case anyone tries a Hammermill type chipper shredder:

DON'T feed corn husks into it.

Maybe everyone else know this, but I did not.

It does a fantastic job with most other things (especially dry), and pulverizes the corn cobs.

So I then tried a pile of husks - which quickly clogged the screen holes (1" diam) and slowed the spin of the hammer wheel, and the V-belt started smoking.

The snow thrower motor kept turning.

I did not get a good look at dash panel ammeter before I turned it off.

As far as 48V motor, I would LOVE to convert the tractor and implements to 48V - simply because I have a 3.1 KVA UPS that runs a 48V pack (dead for the past year), and it could charge the Elec-Trak pack AND the pack could run the UPS in emergency.

Anyone else have or try similar equipment or conversions ?

I recently reconverted the Bercomac two-stage snowblower on my Electric
Ox. The previous motor had failed and I wasn't able to get a
replacement. So instead I bought a Motenergy ME1007. It took some
trial and error about the pulley sizes. Running the blower at the
manufacturer's design RPM is delightful in terms of how far it throws
the snow, but the rate at which you can blow the snow without exceeding the
5kW rated motor power is very slow. So I traded off for more snow
thrown not so far.

The ME1007 is totally enclosed, so there wouldn't be a need for
screening. Unfortunately for Elec-Trak use, it is also 48V. For a 36V
system you would need the ME0909. 3.4kW continuous, but not totally
enclosed.
