Re: (ET) web sites, forums, facebook, and mailing lists

I like the email list, but I'm biased (it started with a private distribution I set up, and when Ken joined, he had the option of hosting via Tufts facilities, and this list was born).

When Robert indicated he was shutting down his ET site, I offered to host the documents and images from it, but was not prepared to host the forums or moderate anything new. I have a fair bit of e-tractor stuff hosted already at econogics.com. I am prepared to repeat that offer now. Also happy to see someone else do it. For me, what is key is keeping the information available and accessible for all. I'm also happy to provide a 'mirror' for any content anyone wants to provide.

I have done this sort of thing before (e.g. Dale's CitiCar site). http://www.econogics.com/ev/DaleW/DaleW-CCar.htm I also used to host the EAA's History pages, but they have taken that back in the past year or so.

Whatever I undertake will be on my time and using my money (the econogics site is already large enough that I pay for extra hosting space - if this takes more, so be it).

Personally, I'm happy with the mailing list, but a web site with a
curated collection of documents is also useful. I've never seen the
point of forums, but if people prefer a forum interface, the thing to do
would be to gateway it to and from the mailing list. Otherwise you end
up with two separate discussions, which is not what we want.

I urge people not to put content on Facebook that is not duplicated
elsewhere. Anyone on the Internet can use a web site, but not everyone
is on Facebook. To me, content on Facebook is like a library where only
some people are allowed through the door.
