I've been cleaning up the motor I'm rebuilding, and finally had time to try to remove the old broken mounting ring. It looks like it wasn't the original ring - it appears to have been JB Welded on - and not just in one or two spots. It seems like some of
that was put on all around the ring (perhaps on the motor housing and the ring slid on over it). Soooo.... it does not seem to want to budge. I even tried cutting two slits through the ring fairly close together, to see if I could knock a piece of the ring
off - and the little piece in between the slits won't move.
So, it's seeming like if I want to get it off, I may need to grind the entire thing off. Unless there's some other way of dealing with a ring that's been JB Welded on. The other
option would be to mount the new retaining ring to the underside (where I was going to put one of the additional rings for sturdiness), and maybe JB Weld some L brackets onto the upper side of the motor housing where the mounting holes have fallen off of the
mounting ring. That certainly wouldn't be the prettiest option, but grinding the entire mounting ring off seems like a huge pain.
Thoughts? Thanks, Mike
