Re: (ET) Well that doesn't work

There are three that I am aware of. An interesting side note...One tractor that was donated to me had the instruction sticker under the hood proclaiming that it was to be charged from 220-240 volt, 50 Hz.

Is there more than one kind of Elec-trak charger transformer?  I might be able to roust one up for you closer than Pittsburgh, but it could be from an E8 or something.  It had a black plywood base as I recall...

I would :

1. Check resistance of all transformer windings (looking for an open).

*nod* Did that last fell. Nothing open, however it is possible that one of the windings has shorted to itself somewhere along the line. I'll see if I can post resistance values.

2. Make sure the cap is the right type.

Yup. It is what was in there when I got it.

3. Check the diodes.

Both were replaced.

I think the transformer is shot. For the short term I'll charge with the little bench supply (2a max), then figure out if I can build or buy a 120v to 50v power supply for it. Getting 48v actually should not be a problem as that's what telco equipment runs at and that would be a lot closer to what a flooded NiCD needs...

Hm.
