(ET) drift cutters

Somehow I missed the existence of such a thing, but now I see what
they are.  Thanks for the tip.  This design looks nice:

You can slide them out of the way when you aren't using them.

But do they really work?  I'm imagining the snow holding on to the
snow behind it, even though I have cut the sides, long enough to go
over the blower housing.
