  It's been a while but I think I assembled it vertically.  Put the
armature into the endshield carefully holding the brushes back and
seating the bearing in.  Put the frame over the top and assembly DE.
Mark the endshield position to get it back in proper orientation.

On other motors I would tie the brushes back with very thin thread, then
pull the thread out once the armature is in.
