What is the current thinking on the best option for replacing a lift motor?
I suppose I could rewind it (or have it rewound) and keep it as a spare.
Might do that. But one way or another, having been well apprised of my lift
motor's mortality (if not my own), I should like to be prepared for the next
failure.
What are the best-dressed ETs wearing for lift motors these days?
Hi David,
When I inadvertently cut a winding on a deck motor armature (be careful when pulling bearings!) I found the cost of a rewind was much higher than a used armature from Harold. Maybe there are used lift armatures available? DIY is probably the wise choice for a rewind.
My New Idea EGT-150 is in some ways a newer version of your E-15. I seem to remember reading the EGT lift motor is stronger and runs on 36V. Can anyone verify? If true that might be the easiest upgrade.
After reading about lift motor problems I considered reducing the load on the motor by not attaching the strap to the blade. Instead, put a short length of tubing over the pin to act as a roller, thread the strap under the roller and up to the frame. Fab a hook to attach the strap to the frame. This cuts the load on the motor in half. (And also slows the lifting of the blade by half.)
I never tried this because I never got the sense my lift motor was working hard.
