Your BB600s are actually a pretty good choice for an ET.  They aren't much 
if any lighter than lead, which is partly because they're built to be 
really 
sturdy.  They are also some of the most forgiving, long-lived NiCd cells 
around.  They really should have a more sophisticated charger, but it's a 
tribute to their ruggedness that they survive reasonably well with the GE 
double boiler.

Shame flooded NiCds aren't more widely available.  They're out of fashion 
now, alas.  Also, some manufacturers are constrained (in the EU) by the 
cadmium content.
