I notice that his is one of the earlier models.  You can just read on the 
label that it was made in Taiwan (these sold for around $40, IIRC).  They 
transferred manufacturing to the mainland some time around 2004, and AFAIK 
have not returned it to Taiwan.  

I've been assuming that they changed the design at least a little to 
simplify it at the same time; it's hard to believe that the cheaper labor 
on 
the mainland would make that much difference in the price.  I suppose it's 
possible, though.  Might be interesting to compare the different versions.

I have enough trouble analyzing circuit cards when they're right in front 
of 
me, so I can't really tell whether it'd be possible to add some 
capacitance 
to the logic supply.  Maybe someone else can.
