(ET) Brake shaft on large-frame
- Greetings -
Dan Childress and others from time to time have commented on the
frozen shaft problem. On the E-20 at home, the brake shaft froze
due to galling. It took some wiggle and wobble along with some
wuggle and tuggle to remove the shaft from the frame after the
pedal was off. A shaft 2" or 3" longer was fitted with levers
necessary to operate the switch and disk brake and fitted also
with an inboard bearing under the floor. This added bearing took
care of the sideways thrust that the outer, too short bearing
suffered from. Now an annual or biannual squirt of oil takes
care of things. There has been no binding in 20 or more years
and no further parts replacement.
