Re: (ET) GE-20 Transmission Oil Specs

To answer Dave's post, I used the Kerosene after the wheels were
completely off the ground and the trans running in LL. There is no real
load at that point. You wouldn't believe the SH_T that came out of my
oil. I imagine it had never been changed since new. Condensation
moisture and emulsified into the oil making it like Brown Muddy Syrup.
The kerosene acts as a "thinner" to make it wash out better/faster.

After 20 years of abuse and use I don't imagine 30 minutes of no-load
running a thinner heavyweight oil is going to do any damage.

I'm no expert, but my first inclination is to disagree with this
recommendation. Kerosene doesn't supply much lubrication. It's true that
old-timers used to do this for automotive engine oil changes - but from
what
I've read, all it really did was add wear to the bearings.

Besides, I guess I don't understand what it is that you're "washing
around."
An auto engine crankcase gets some products of combustion from blowby, so
it does build up sludge, but what is there to gunk up a trans?
