Back when I started getting into EVs, my first set of golf car batteries
came from an industrial battery supplier and rebuilder. His shop was full
of forklift batteries and such in the process of being rebuilt. He had
stacks (literally) of golf car batteries waiting to be recycled. I think
I
paid $10 each.

I'm sure he got more than he would have gotten by recycling them, and I
got
a cheap set of batteries that gave me maybe 8-10 miles of range in my
Comuta-
Car. In the end though it wasn't a good investment, because all it did was
whet my appetite for more range. A few weeks later, I bought a set of new
batteries. ;-)
