One of the hazards of cutting off the bolts is that you can easily break 
the 
seal between the post and the battery case.  When I had to do this, I used 
a 
good, sharp hacksaw and very light pressure, so as to minimize the 
possible 
flexing.  I think I'd be hesitant to try using bolt cutters, but maybe you 
have more finesse with them than I do.
