Typical golf car batteries have a more or less standard lead post, with a 
stud embedded in the top.  The stud sticks straight up.  This allows you 
to 
use automotive-style clamps on the post, or golf-car style lugs on the 
stud. 
 

Are you saying that all your batteries have is the stud?  No lead post?  
And 
your tractor has only the automotive-type clamps?

FWIW, I've heard that some recent Trojan batteries have oddly small posts. 
 
Why they changed from the standard I'll never understand.
