(ET) dozer blade and driveway maintenance
I've been using my dozer blade a fair amount; reworking the gravel
driveway and clearing out a decent snow (finally!). During all that
quality time I've noticed some things about the dozer blade that seem
wrong for what I want to do, or maybe I'm doing something wrong, so let
me explain what I'm trying to do and maybe you all can tell me how to do
it better...
I have a long gravel driveway (~1/4 mile) and it has (when graded right)
a bit of crown and small ditches on each side. Over time gravel moves
towards the sides and fills the ditches. So what I want to do is push
the gravel back into the drive and clean out the ditches. I set the
blade angled pointed towards the center of the drive and drive down one
side of the drive with the edge of the blade in the ditch. However when
the blade is angled it also tilts a bit (side to side) and the tilt is
the wrong way (high side on the ditch end). When pushing snow, I want to
angle the blade the other way to push snow off the drive, but here, the
low side is in the ditch and it leaves snow in the middle. I would think
both problems would be solved if the blade tilted the opposite way in
each case.
As I see it, the blade tilts because the support actually has some
upward angle to it (from back to front) even when lowered to the
ground. The blade tilt is even more pronounced when it is lifted. If the
support angled down from back to front when lowered I would think the
blade would tilt the way I want. I'm thinking of making a new blade
mount that has the pivot bar raised up higher, but I'd like to get
thoughts from the group. Maybe I'm just doing soemthing wrong?
Thoughts?
