Steve,
You have done a lot of thinking about this problem, and you seem to be on the right track. I used to have a blade, and only once did I actually mount it on my New Idea. It seemed to work OK, even when it was tilted, but it was too darn slow for me. However, I have oversize tires (golf cart) on the front of my New Idea, which does raise the front end a little more than the GE's I had at the time.
Would it be easier to put bigger tires on the front than try to re-engineer the front mounting bracket? Just a thought - I don't know how well that would work in your case.

I've been using my dozer blade a fair amount; reworking the gravel
driveway and clearing out a decent snow (finally!). During all that quality time I've noticed some things about the dozer blade that seem wrong for what I want to do, or maybe I'm doing something wrong, so let me explain what I'm trying to do and maybe you all can tell me how to do it better... <snip>
As I see it, the blade tilts because the support actually has some
upward angle to it (from back to front) even when lowered to the ground. The blade tilt is even more pronounced when it is lifted. If the support angled down from back to front when lowered I would think the blade would tilt the way I want. I'm thinking of making a new blade mount that has the pivot bar raised up higher, but I'd like to get thoughts from the group. Maybe I'm just doing soemthing wrong? |
