Yes, a decent one will cut small brush and prickleberries nicely, my 8' 
(on the JD-A) cuts 1" stuff with no trouble.  I wouldn't think of 
mounting ahead or behind the tractor body, part of the advantage is 
driving beside the cut part or trimming over ditches or under fences.

You may even be able to find a 4' cut horsedrawn mower somewhere, just 
shorten the tongue and tow it.  (;-')
