OK, gotta be a smart a**, those diodes have turned into SCR'S, turnedoff. Yup, they must be definitely "open", usually happens from longterm overstress. A short super heavy load usually shorts them - meltsthe solder on the leads so it flows together and bypasses the diode.

wombat = spent a lot of time anayzing "blown" diodes
